Rennie Watson is a highly visual filmmaker predominantly working freelance in the Art Department in film. He enjoys his work as an Art Director and Production Designer in Film (Short/Long Form), Television, music videos and TVCs.
Rennie has been working in this area for five years but has done some exciting work freelancing as a department head for such companies such as Oh Yeah Wow, KEWL / BANALARAMA, TRUCE and LateNite Films. Through this kind of work Rennie has found great enthusiasm for working in small collaborative teams and has gathered a variety of ways of working.
Coming from a theatre background he developed skills in set design and construction, puppeteering, puppet making, costuming, prop sourcing and visual effect make up. It is Rennie’s passion to build and create things using his hands when it comes to visual effects, rather than leaving it all to the guys in post.
Rennie trained at Swinburne University, receiving an Honours Degree in Film and Television. Here he built upon and learnt to combine his skills to create handmade worlds for his works. Rennie draws inspiration both personally and professionally from such filmmakers as Jim Henson, Michel Gondry, Wes Anderson, Guillermo Del Toro, Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
